The Vine takes home winning title for First Peterborough Caesar Fest

Peterborough’s First Annual Caesar Fest crowns The Vine as winner of the competition, after three weeks of the food and drink event that celebrated everyone’s favourite clammy cocktail.

From July 13th to the 31st, 11 different restaurants, cafés and pubs featured a specialty Caesar creation on their menus for downtown revellers to enjoy and vote for their favourite. Both in the glass and on the plate, this multi-site competition encouraged local chefs and mixologists to get creative, drawing inspiration from the flavours and ingredients of the classic Canadian cocktail.  Over 800 votes were cast and The Vine, a brand new pescatarian restaurant that opened on Sherbrooke Street this year took top honours with their Papa Tom’s Classic Virgin Caesar.

The second favourite entry was The El P’s Kimchi Caesar, with The Dirty Burger taking third place with their Dirty Muddy Caesar.

“Who knew that the new kids on the block would be taking home the trophy for the very first Caesar Fest”, says Tyrone Flowers, co-owner of The Vine “We’re so humbled and we want to say thank you to everyone who came out to try our Papa Tom’s Caesar”.

The Caesar Fest promotion relied heavily on the theatrical skill of local performance artist, Naomi Duvall, who was hired by the Peterborough DBIA to play “Julia Caes-her”. Acting as a town crier for the festival, “Julia Caes-her” animated the events program by generating interest on the streets and in participating restaurants engaging the unsuspecting public on the festival’s iconic drink.

“Congratulations to The Vine on championing Caesar Fest! I appreciate how the community has been so engaged with my character and this program. I had a lot of fun developing the persona” says Naomi Duvall, local performance artist “I think it’s great that the DBIA took this opportunity to marry theatrical arts with the culinary scene to enrich the fabric of our downtown community. I can’t wait to see how this program grows into next summer. Hail Caes-Her!”

Peterborough Caesar Festival would like to thank Y-Drive and Y-Drive Eats for being partners and offering free delivery to community members when ordering from participating restaurants, as well as 50% off rides to and from the locations to ensure people were Caesaring safely. For more information on this clammy festival visit: www.ptbocaesarfest.com and follow @ptbocaesarfest on Instagram to follow along on the adventures for next year’s event.
