SUMMARY:William Prince at Musicfest - Free Concert
DESCRIPTION:Neil Young may not have wanted any southern men around but he sure was welcoming to the pride of Peguis First Nation\, Canadian folk and country singer-songwriter William Prince when Young decided to have Prince open for him for a pair of concerts in Boston back in 2018. Of those unforgettable back-to-back nights\, Prince regaled\, “If Neil showed me anything\, it’s how wonderful it can be to keep going once the whole thing is yours. I’m so thankful it was two nights.” \nOver four albums\, William Prince has created a body of work that traces a remarkable journey. 2023’s Stand in the Joy\, produced by Dave Cobb\, has Prince finding himself exactly where he needs to be. The album won the JUNO Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and Prince was also nominated as the Americana Honors & Awards’s “Emerging Act of the Year”\, “Folk Alliance International Album of the Year”\, and JUNO Award Songwriter of the Year. \nPrince’s career trajectory is marked by numerous accolades and milestones\, including tours with The War and Treaty\, Yola and Katie Pruitt\, two Tiny Desk sessions\, a debut at The Grand Ole Opry and a Newport Folk Festival debut as the recipient of the “John Prine Songwriter Fellowship”. From national network television appearances\, top-tier media coverage and performances at major international festivals\, William Prince has become one of the country’s most beloved and celebrated songwriters.

SUMMARY:Steven Page at Musicfest - Free Concert
DESCRIPTION:It was the late 1980’s when a promising young musician from Scarborough—presumably in between visits “to the late-night record shop”— dropped into a Harvey’s following a Peter Gabriel concert and found himself in the general vicinity of a classmate he didn’t really like. A mutual affinity for Gabriel quickly dissolved any animosity and a friendship was formed\, one that would spawn one of Canada’s greatest bands. 15 million albums sold later and the former foes\, Steven Page and Ed Robertson\, co-founders of the Barenaked Ladies had amassed one hell of a career that includes multiple JUNO Awards\, SOCAN Awards\, Genie Awards\, Billboard Music Awards\, two Grammy Award nominations and an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2018. Not to mention countless anthems that are synonymous with Canadiana such as “Brian Wilson”\, “If I Had a Million Dollars”\, “Pinch Me” and so many more.

SUMMARY:Abbamania + Night Fever (Bee Gees) - Free Concert
DESCRIPTION:It’s been almost 40 years since Abba last toured and\, as you can imagine\, in 1979 ticket availability was scarce. Abbamania\, the tribute\, takes you back in time by recreating one of the world’s finest pop groups in a live stage performance. This highly polished\, professional production was created in 1999\, described by the New York Times as “vocally superb”\, the band has performed twice for the cast of Mama Mia\, who commented on their performance by saying\, “Abbamania IS Abba.” \nPreceding Abbamania on the Del Crary Parl stage is Night Fever\, a tribute to iconic disco band The Bee Gees. Equally convincing with all the signature high harmonies and stage presence\, they perform classic hits “Jive Talking”\, “Too Love Somebody”\, “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing” just to name a few. Both tribute acts perform over 200 concerts a year and will take you back in time to when both ruled the pop music universe. Two great shows\, one stage.

SUMMARY:New Stages Presents: Women of the Fur Trade
DESCRIPTION:New Stages is pleased to present a staged reading of Frances Koncan’s acclaimed satirical comedy\, WOMEN OF THE FUR TRADE. \nStrong language. Suitable for ages 14+. \nSet in “18 hundred and something-something\,” this playfully inventive story revolves around the lives of three women\, Ojibwe\, Métis\, and British\, all of whom speak in a 21st-century slang. \nThis is a sharp-witted\, irreverent comedy that flips the script on the male-centric history of the Canadian fur trade. The playwright\, Frances Koncan\, found that every historical account of the fur trade was written by men\, so she satirizes this erasure by featuring the perspective of unheard-from voices—three women during the time of the fur trade and the Red River Resistance. \nWOMEN OF THE FUR TRADE is a must-see play that was a hit at the Stratford Festival in 2023 and has been featured at theatres across the country ever since\, to rave reviews. \nDirected by Patti Shaughnessy\, WOMEN OF THE FUR TRADE boasts an all-star cast including Michelle Bardach (seen recently in Rez Gas in Port Hope)\, award-winning film actor Sera-Lys McArthur\, and local legend Megan Murphy\, featuring Mac Fyfe as historical figure Thomas Scott\, and Chris Mejaki as the Métis leader\, Louis Riel. The play is stage managed by Sarah Lazzarino.
